CCSS2 Unit 8 Activity: Map of the Repopulation Mehods following the Reconquista

You must create a map of the Iberian Peninsula that contains iformation about the five different methods of repopulation: 

1.     “Presuras”

2.     The Charter or “fuero” System

3.     Military Orders

4.     Capitulations

5.     “Repartimientos”

First, trace the outline of the map of the Iberian Peninsula on p. 230. You do not need to include the provinces, cities and other features inside.

Next, you must draw in the different methods of repopulation according to the power point photocopies AND the book.  Tip: The powerpoint has a good map of all of the methods except Capitulations, which you´ll have to draw in using the map on p.148.

  The final map should be 2 pages: one of the map and another showing the explanations in one sentence each.

You must have all four of these conceptual maps in your copybook for next class.  It doesn´t matter which class you copy, but you need one conceptual map for each of the Christian kingdoms for an activity we are going to do.

CCSS3 Units 6,7 and 8 Project Instructions    February 2015

You will work in groups of 4 to 5 students to present and teach a portion of the unit to the class.  The portions you may choose from are:

1.      Unit 6: sections 1.2, 2.1, 2.3, 3 and 4

2.      Unit 6: sections 5, 6, 7 and a portion of your own research on EU policies in the primary sector.

3.      Unit 7: sectons 1 through 4

4.      Unit 7: sections 4, 5, 6 and a portion of your own research on EU policies in the secondary sector.

5.      Unit 8: all sections and and a portion of your own research on EU policies in the tertiary sector.

You task will be to teach the class in any way you prefer (power point, posters, speeches, using the blackboard, planning an activity) the content of your section. This exposition should last approximately between 12 and 20 minutes and should be followed by a quiz (a mini-test) that your group has designed (and has previously shown to me).

The students may take notes during the “class” in their copybooks, which they may use during the mini-test followign the presentation.  You must correct the mini exams and bring them to me the day following your presentation.

You must give me your mini-test by February 6th. It must contain ten items and be marked out of ten. It will be subject to my approval, meaning that if it is too easy or too difficult you will have to change it before you present.  

I will compile all the mini-tests from all the classes and post them on the blog. At least one item from each unit that appears on the mini-test  will appear on the global exam.

GRADING RUBRIC:

You will be graded according to the following criteria:

60% for the quality of your presentation (clarity, completeness and creativity)

20% the average score your students got on your mini-test

20% the average of your personal scores on the other presentaitions.

TIMELINE

The week of 2-6 February:

Class meeting 1: Explanation of project and time to choose groups

Class meeting 2: Time to read and understand your portion, ask questions of Ms. Puritz and design your mini-test.

Class meeting 3: Last class session to work in groups. 

The week of 9-13 February:
Mini-test due Monday 9 February.

Class meeting 1: last planning class

Class meeting 2: group 1 (Unit 6: sections 1.2, 2.1, 2.3, 3 and 4)

Class meeting 3: group 2 (Unit 6: sections 5, 6, 7 and a portion of your own research on EU policies in the primary sector.)

The week of 16-20 February:
